How's this for a personality crisis?
David Johansen helped invent punk rock in the '70s as one of the New York Dolls, then found mainstream success in the '80s through his Buster Poindexter persona and the single "Hot, Hot, Hot." For the past several years, Johansen has worked to reinvent himself as a barroom blues singer, appearing at local spots from the Downtown in Red Bank to Woody's in Farmingdale, and especially the Brighton Bar in Long Branch, as either a solo acoustic act or accompanied by longtime sideman Brian Koonin.
Now, it appears that Johansen is ready to rock again. The David Johansen Band is set to play a live and loud set of New York Dolls classics on Friday, Aug. 16 at the Brighton Bar.
Doors are at 8:30 p.m., tickets are $15 and Acid and Ingrid and the Defectors round out the bill. Sounds like a great night on Brighton Avenue to us.
